Frankfurt am Main

Additional maps: Heidelberg

Hello,

Today we had an excursion to Frankfurt am Main, the "most international city in Germany, the largest financial centre on the continent, the historical city of coronations, the city of Goethe..." as stated by the Mayor Petra Roth.

It takes about 20 min by regional train (and over 40 min by S-Bahn!) from Darmstadt to Frankfurt am Main. We walked around the downtown area for a couple of hours and ended the walking tour to the southern side of the river Main, to the "corner" of the local drink Apfelwein.

Frankfurt's high-rise skyline is world-famous. Because Frankfurt is the financial center and the traffic hub in Europe, it is known for its skyline with big banking and financial towers and large train station and airport. But besides these Frankfurt has also over 45 museums, numerous art galleries, green gardens along the river Main, traditional German timber-framed buildings around the city hall area and, of course, a vivid marketing area for tourists and shoppers!

Here's some pictures from Frankfurt. If you go to Frankfurt I recommend the Apfelwein "region" of the city at Sachsenhausen side of the river!
