Maria Luisa Park
This is just one of the many ponds that they had in the parks of Sevilla. I don´t think that I have ever seen a city with so many parks before. Sevilla
Julie J Vanover I have been so excited to see Sevilla since the we watched a show about it in my Spanish class and it did not disappoint. The city is beautiful, lively and has so much energy and warmth. I arrived a little later in the day than I had wanted to and the main sites that I wanted to see were closing soon so I walked the city. I walked through Santa Cruz, one of their cool old neighborhoods with small winding streets. I explored several of their huge parks that were beautiful with fountains and different gardens throughout. Walked through Plaza de Expana which was wonderful. It is a Plaza with a fountain in the middle and this semi-circular building surrounding it that is just beautiful. There are little sections for every city in Spain and a tiled picture to represent it. The architecture was just amazing, beautiful tile, pillars and arches. This was the Moorish architecture that I had come to Sevilla for.
My next day in Sevilla I went to see the Cathedral, but they only gave the student discount to those younger than 26 (age discrimination- I´m telling you) so I looked at what was in
Plaza de Espana
I just loved this place. I walked all around it twice so that I could see everything. And it was free, double bonus! the Cathedral in the gift shop book and it was pretty with alot of religious art. I decided that I did not need to pay to see more religious art as I´ve seen more than most people in their whole lifetimes. So I headed to Reales Alcazares, the other main site in Sevilla that I wanted to see. There the students were free!! This improved my mood greatly. So I went through and instantly feel in love with the architecture. It was so wonderful and like something that I had never seen. The simple geometric designs that were so wonderful with the arches and other Moorish architecture. Breathtaking... I spent hours here, and several places I came back to a few times to see how the sun and shadows changed how it looked. Not only was this a beautiful Palace with wonderful architecture it also had a huge garden with every kind of plant that I could think of and a labyrinth out of hedges that I did get stuck in. I eventually had to jump hedges to get out.
That night I had paella a rice dish with sea food and a little bit of what ever they
Bridge in Plaza de Espana
This is one of the bridges that crossed the moat. I loved the railings and tile posts, they were so pretty. want to through in as my signature Spanish dish. As I was finishing up my dinner the soccer game got over and Sevilla had won their championship so everyone was all over the streets cheering and singing. People were driving down the street waving flags and just celebrating, my first thought was to get to my hostel because there was going to be a riot. Then I realized this is Europe and this happens all the time, it is normal and just enjoyed watching the festivities.
I went to Cordoba to see the famous cathedral there, but I arrived and the tourism office in the train station was closed. So I snagged a map from the car rental place, but I ended up heading to a beautiful site that was way out of town and walked way out before I realized it. So I arrived at the cathedral and it was closing in 45 minutes and cost €8 and I would have to rush through. Oh, and it was hot, really hot! It was about 100 and I was wilting, and really angry that the tourism office was closed and not there to direct me to where I wanted
Spanish Cities
This was my favorite tile work of a city, Granada. Now I will have to visit it... someday. to go. I really wanted to see the Cathedral, it is pretty famous with the red and white Moorish columns. Oh well, another trip when the tourism office is open. All in all I loved Southern Spain, it was getting a little hot so in the future I would make sure I got there earlier in the season, but the people were so wonderful and friendly. Everything that I saw I loved from the huge chested flamango dancer to the gardens to the palace. I loved it. I left here with my spirits so revived and high.
