Here I am with a very pregnant Brenda, just after I arrived!!
Day 20 – Saturday – Austin, Texas

WOAHHH what a day!!! So after "surviving" another night in our hotel on Bourbon Street (lol, i LOVE my earplugs!!) we had an early start!!!

John, Jen & Dean dropped me off at the airport for my little side excursion...it was a bit of a surprise so I hadn't mentioned it on here before so...some background...I guess the SHORT version, is that a whole BUNCH of the BBB girls (for those not up to speed that's the Brides/Babies internet forum I joined MANY years ago!!) live in Austin, Texas and it's surrounds.

AND, it just happenned that it was Brenda's baby shower on Saturday, so Jessica (one of the other girls) and I schemed to get me there as a big surprise for Brenda!! It involved two flights (New Orleans to Houston, and Houston to Austin) but hey, internal flights here are SOOO cheap so it seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up.

So I arrived in Austin around lunch time, and Trina was there with her two gorgeous boys Brendan and Aidan to pick me up. We headed over to Brenda's house where the shower

was being held to surprise her!

I was super nervous by this time as here I was lopping in to some "stranger's" house who is extemely pregnany and no doubt emotional, unannounced on the day of her baby shower. ANYWAY, it was exciting anyway, and I managed to bring tears to the pregnant ladies eyes, but they were GOOD tears! hehehe. MAN was she GLOWING!

Bren - I am so lucky and privelleged to have been able to share in your special day with you and Hector. The last few years have been such an emotional (and phsyical) rollercoaster for you both, and I feel honoured that you have let us girls ride along with you, and share in this exciting time with you. It was WONDERFUL to see you back up on your feet and i cant wait to see photos of you cuddling your little boy.

ANYWAY, all the mushy stuff aside, it was an overwhelming, yet wonderful day. I think I ended up meeting 12 of the girls and heaps of the kids too! The shower was super fun. Lots of great food, and some cool games.

One game in particular, involved skulling/chugging

texan beer out of a baby bottle (teet and all). There was NO WAY I was letting any Americans beat and Aussie at a drinking contest, there was to be a prize for the first guy and the first girl...I took out the girl's prize, but as it turns out the male in question who won actually cheated by biting the end of the teat off, so technically beat everyone!!!

After the shower, a few of us went out with some TexMex (yummm) - have you Aussies heard of Sopapillas? I've never seen them on a menu back home, but man they are GOOOOD stuff! And of course I indulged in a Texan Martini.

And then....after dinner we went back to Jessica's place (where I stayed the night) and played with her daughter Josilyn who is just SOOOOO cute and funny, funny, funny.

Ok i'm sure i've missed out on a ton of stuff but it's been a full on few days and that's all I can think of right now.

Oh, for the curious inquring minds, while I was having my little holiday within a holiday, Dean Jen & John drove from New Orleans up

With the bottle of beer I was drinking, baby bottle, and te goodie bag that I won!
to Dallas. Dean's brother and sister in law (Garry and Yvonne) live north east of Dallas, so were meeting us there to catch up (it has been 15 years since they have seen each other!). So Dean had dinner with Garry and Yvonne and J&J...well I have no idea what they did! Enjoyed their own company no doubt!!!

"Dean's Details"I dunno I wasnt there!!! However, avoiding over a dozen baby obsessed women isnt such a bad thing!
