Yet another overnight greyhound later and we're in Melbourne, yes home to Neighbours - but did you know that apparently over here Home and Away has the higher ratings - despicable!!
Anyways we arrive in Melbourne coach station only to find that there is no free pick up to our hostel - we're just told to catch a number 96 tram to St Kilda and thats it - how helpful is that! So we manage to find the tram stop we need and hop on to the first number 96 and away we go! However, this tram ride was not smooth sailing. About half way down the line two blokes get on and about 5 minutes later they stand up on the tram and announce 'good morning ladies and gentleman' - theres me thinking that they're some sort of salesmen, alas they turn out to be ticket inspectors - only problem is we don't have any tickets, d'oh!!! We though you could buy them off the driver of the tram but that wasn't the case! So the one inspector comes over to us and asks to see our tickets, so i sheepishly say 'sorry we haven't got any'!!
So this guy sits down with us and starts giving us the 20 questions, we say sorry we've only just arrived here we didn't know and try to plead our innocence! Luckily our sweet faces of innocence worked, we must have struck a cord in his inspecting heart, so we get a lesson on how to use the trams from him and a free tram ride - yey!!! We all get off at the same stop and this inspector is really helpful, he asks us if we know where we're going - which of course we don't, so he phones up directory enquiries to find out the address we need - all this English charm worked on him!!hehe
So we find our hostel and get settled in, meet up with the girls we met in Thailand and make friends with a mad girl from Holland! Spend most of our days having a look around the lovely city of Melbourne and mooching round the shops in St Kilda - the arty area where we are staying and yes of course we fit in with all the arty types!!!
And a trip to Melbourne just would not be a trip to Melbourne if we did not do the whole Neighbours thing!! So on monday we went on the tour round Ramsay Street - had to get up early and everything!! So we get on our official Neighbours tour bus and are treated to music videos of all the Neighbours stars who released songs! And after some dodgy songs, from Paul Robinson, the twins and Craig Mcglauhlin we get treated to past episodes of Neighbours!! This is Neighbours heaven and we even are privvy to some insider info on whats going to happen!!! Our first tour stop is Erinsborough High School - though in real life it is actually a school for foreign students to learn English!! We drive onto the studios and get to see the sets for Carpenters Mechanics, Grease Monkeys, Marlenes junk shop (if any one remembers that!) and the bus stop that everyone uses when they make an exit from the soap!! Then we finally make it to Ramsay Street, although its not actually called that in real life! The street is tinybut all the houses look exactly the same, but alas no sightings of Harold! On our way back to our hostel we get to meet a mystery star from the soap - you know who it was.........Dr Darcy - yes i know he's not in it anymore, but thats who we met!!
So back at the hostel and its time to prepare for Neighbours night, a quiz night at the Elephant and Wheelbarrow pub, where some of the characters turn up and drink with us! Tonight we get to meet Janelle, Connor, Libby Kennedy, Karl Kennedy and Madge Bishop - apparently its a special night because Madge hasn't done it in years!!! Well what a night it was, i'm sad to say we didn't win the quiz - not sure how we got most of our answers right, i'm sure we did!!! hehe! Heres some gossip for you Connor is going out with Michelle Scully in real life and hes put on loads of weight!!! So we get our photos taken with all the characters and then we really are in for a treat Karl performs for us with his band and i have to say that they are really good!
With the Neighbours night done and dusted it was back to the hostel for a couple of hours sleep before we get another 12 hour coach back up to Sydney, only we nearly didn't make it! We woke up late, managed to get a taxi. Our coach was leaving at 7:30am and we were meant to be at the coach station half an hour before hand, at 7:25 we were still on our way in the taxi!! Got to the coach station and Michelle legged it indoors and literally had to run and flag down the coach which was just leaving!!! Luckily he stopped and we got on but it was a bit of a close one!! hehe

Oh yes
You know that I'm addicted to this prog. I told she who must be obeyed how good your visit to the Street sounded, I was told it was my own fault, I had the chance but was too stubbon and said no I didn't want to go. Never mind you went by "proxy"---did you get any souv's from there ?
