Aitutaki LagoonAitutaki LagoonAitutaki Lagoon

Described as the most heavanly place on earth. We weren't in a position to disagree.
On Olly's birthday we flew to Aitutaki. It took 40 mins on the little plane. The view flying in was fantastic - we could see the whole of the bright blue lagoon. We stayed in a little hut right on the beach, it was lovely.

We thought we's seen paradise but we hadn't until Aitutaki!! It's a huge aqua lagoon surrounded by reef. It's considerred to be one of the best lagoons in the world. It couldn't really be any better! The sand is so white and fine.

The following day we had a walk to the 'town' which was teeny weeny, and also climbed to the highest point on the island to get a nice view of the lagoon. It was a bit overgrown up there though and also rained so we didn't see a lot! The rain stopped when we got back to the beach and the sun was shining for the rest of the day. We spent the afternoon relaxing and snorkelling. In the evening we went for a walk along the beach and say on a fallen palm tree to watch the sun set (the sunsets in Aitutaki were amazing). As the sun was

setting Olly started reading me a poem that he'd written. It was really lovely and romantic...but my face must have been a picture of shock when he got down on one knee at the end of it and popped the question!! He had secretly made me a temporary coconut engagement ring when we were in Fiji. What a lovely place to get engaged!

The next day went on an absolutely brilliant day trip. It was a perfect day, clear sunny skies and warm but with a light breeze. After stopping in the lagoon to see some turtles bobbing around we went snorkelling on the reef. It was great! At one point we were surrounded by so many tiny white and silver fish that it was like being on a snow storm. Afterwards, we cruised over to Honeymoon Island which is the smallest island we've ever been on and took about a minute to walk around. Red-tailed terns nest there - the babies are like little balls of fuzz! Afterwards we went to One Foot Island where 'Survivor' is filmed, we passed Tiger and Shark islands where 'Shipwrecked' is filmed along the way. We had a MASSIVE lunch and got

to try all of the Cook Islands specialities which were similar to NZ Maori foods and also to the traditional Fijian food. We snorkelled at a couple more excellent spots before heading back home.

But this one was a little special. I had had a little too much sun on this particular day and ended up asking Charlie to marry me! Of course, she forgot to say yes for a little while, but she thought I would just assume she wanted to.
