This is Josh and I watching playoffs Annyong Haseyo!
I am sorry that I am lacking in the amount of blogging that I have been doing lately but I hope to change that as I now have many exciting things to be blogging about. So many things in fact that I am not too sure where to begin and I apologize in advance if this seems a bit unorderly...its the Korean way!
As you have previously read (if you have been reading!) a few weeks ago, we ventured to a place called Techno Mart. This was the ultimate mall where you could find any technologicalo gizmo or gadget that you could ever want. I mean there were three levels of just cell phones a lone! Not to mention the endless rows of plasma tv's, cameras, video cameras, computers, etc.etc.etc. Last weekend I was fortunate to have the opportunity to go guitar shopping with Josh, who is the newest teacher at Sullivan... who I should also mention is from Vancouver and really upset that they are not in the playoffs anymore. So, guitar shopping....we met this guy the night before while we were out and about and he gave us these sketchy directions to this guitar shop...so we
New friends!
This is Katie (blond) and her friend...I don't remember her name! headed out on the guitar shopping adventure. To my surprise we ended up in the general direction and did find some guitar shops that had some pretty sweet looking instruments. But Josh was certain that there was a whole warehouse type of building that would have much more selection. not that I doubted him...okay maybe I did a little because we got into an elevator and when we got out it looked like we were in a prison.....but then we were walking around and we saw this guy carrying all these guitars...so we followed him...Jackpot! It was like the Techno Mart of Musical instruments! I mean there were literally hundreds of guitars, pianos, trumpets, drum sets, saxophones....you name it, they had it! Rows and rows of shops! I was in awe....and then after spending three hours looking, I was in need of a Martini! But I have come to the conclusion that this is the Korean way. They are just so extreme about everything that they do and are. I have been taking a few cabs here and there lately to just really be able to look around and I have noticed that there are designated streets for different things.
New friends!
Katie and Wally Allow me to explain....you will be walking along and all of a sudden you will see a store with lamps, then you will walk a bit further and see a store with living room furniture, a bit further there is bedroom furniture....and pretty soon you realize you are on the furniture street. They have one for dogs, motorcylces, clothes...its so bizarre to me! Its not like that everywhere but in certain districts you can just shop by street...kind of like painting by numbers! haha....but I guess it makes sense because then its more one stop shopping and you dont have to drive all over the city to furnish your house!
Moving on...I had the opportunity to experience my first Korean (Adult) birthday party last weekend. One ofmy Coworkers Christine, her friend Simon invited us all out to celebrate his birthday in Itaewon! It was really fun...I ended up meeting up with my Korean friends Grace and Sunny and we had some drinks before meeting up with the rest of the crew. They introduced us all to some more Korean friends and we all ended up going over to the party. However, when we got there, Sunny got this really
New friends!
This is a different Simon...not the bday Simon...lol worried look on her face and was quite concerned because there was no birthday cake at the party. So we quickly ran (literally in heals!) down to Paris Bauguette to get him one.I guess it is a really bad thing to have a cake at a Korean Birthday! Simon was so happy and immediately Sunny and I became his instant friends, which of course called for shots of tequilla! We ended up leaving the birthday the birthday party and going to a place called "The Loft". This was a really interesting little place and good for me because if you are girl, you only pay 5,000 won and you drink for free til three am. I really didn't take advantage of that enough but it was still a fun bar and they played really great music...and funny enough we met up with these people that had been on the subway with us! I am getting used to running into more familar faces...especially ones that are foreign...Itaewon is weird for that because that night we also ran into Mark and Damien who are previous teachers from Sullivan...good times!
And so after that fun filled night of dancing, laughing and drinking...I
New friends!
Me and Jimmy! Good times... headed back to my not so unfamiliar neighborhood at the graceful hour of 4:30 am, which I might add is an early night in this part of the world. Quite sober, I decided to stay up another hour and a bit and watch the sun come up for the first time in ages. What an amazing morning and a beautiful sight! I woked up around 11:30 with no plans for the day and then Rowan text me and decided to come to Sinsa for a visit. So, we ended up walking around here all afternoon, going for coffee, taking a stroll around this wonderful park and going out for dinner. It was a great way to spend a Sunday! That is my favorite day here in Seoul because everything just seems to stop and exhale from the busy week. So that was a nice way to end what had been such a chaotic week.
My Korean lessons are going good. I am starting to be able to read certain signs and understand what they mean...as for speaking, well so far I can sound out and say what is on the sign but as for understanding what I am reading...that
Random!
?this guy was holding this pole in the middle of the sidewalk...I think he's from Hawaii 5-0! is a bit difficult for me. On monday I start the Beginner 1 class so I hope that I will be able to speak more in a month and not sound as silly as I do now! Its actually not that hard to learn to read once you have all the characters down! But I guess everything is easy when you know what you are doing right? Well, I am going to put up some pics from the birthday party and what not so I hope you enjoy. I have many more adventures to write about but I will save those for tomorrow. Stay tuned....you have to hear about my first baseball game here in Korea....get ready! Its a pretty wild game that they play here.....
Much Love,
Trena
