After the paradise of Nha Trang on the coast we caught an internal flight to the capital of Vietnam.

We based ourselves out of the Bodega Hotel,on the Hang Bong Road, which is 5 mins walk from the centre. This was recommended to us by our Croatian friends Zoran and Ledia who we met In Cambodia. Unfortunately on arrival they only had a dorm room, but we were joined by some of the gang from Nha Trang Craig & Ricky(UK) and Crystal & Vic (Canada) so the dorm room proved no problem. Good Times!

Hanoi for us turned out to be a bit of a disappointing capital city. To us it didnt have alot going for it. We went to the water puppet show after they were highly recommend in the lonely planet yellow bible. This must be the most laughable show ever. It was all in Vietnamese and made Bill & Ben or the Thunderbirds look futuristic!! The City in general lacked a certain buzz, that I definitely felt in Saigon. the kind of buzz that modern cities usually have.

The Nicest part of Hanoi is located around the Hoan Kiem Lake, which is in the

old quarter of Hanoi. Around the lake are a number of cafes which overlook the lake and there are a number of shops and bars in this area.

It was only the gang that we were with, that made Hanoi enjoyable for us. We found an unusual floating nightclub, which was located on the Song Hong Red River, just outside of the main centre area. This was open till 6am!
Our other find was the Hotel Sheridan which was the only place open after 12, because the police started to close all the bars/clubs in Hanoi before 12 because of the upcoming elections. It is rumored that 160 tourists were arrested in the floating nightclub the day after us!

Biggest find was the Kangeroo cafe which is run by an aussie called mike. Easily the best burger in Asia is served here and the Spaghetti Arribiata was very good aswell! They also run great trips over to Halong Bay and Cat Ba Islands, if only we'd have found this place earlier as we definitely would have gone!

Anyway off to Loas now to try and get to the Gibbons as we have finally made contact at last and reserved our place for 2nd May. Check out www.gibbonx.org for info.
