Tunnels Entrance
A Tight Squeeze! Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City as it is now known, proved to be a great city for us as we had a very enjoyable 3 days here.
On the history side of things we have visited the Cu Chi Tunnels and the War Remnants Museum.
The Ch Chi Tunnels was very interesting and something I had been looking forward to ever since our round the world trip had been planned. Having researched the tunnels in the past it was great to actually be here and see how ingenious the Vietnamese really were.
The tunnel network became legendary during the 1960's, for its use by the Viet Cong. The tunnel system stretches from Saigon to the Cambodian border, and there was over 250km of tunnels. To think that they lived in these tunnels for weeks, and the way they were designed is extremely clever, air holes for breathing, ducts for letting out the cooking emissions aswell as the amazing array of traps. They also used dead americans soldier uniforms to place a scent so that the americans who tried to use dogs to sniff out the tunnel entrances out, couldn't find them as it smelt like americans!
Tunnel Entrance
A Tight Squeeze! This was a brilliant half day we had and our tour guide was very good, we even went down the tunnels which was great as it gave you an idea what conditions were like down there.
After enjoying our visit to the tunnels and full of information we took a visit to the War Remnants Museum.
This War Museum really highlighted the terrible effects of the Agent Orange Chemical that the Americans used on the Vietnamese. Photographs of the Victims, the torture, and the birth defects caused are on display. The display shows the Americans have alot to answer for with there use of Agent Orange as the effects are still evident today! There is also an array of war machinery Tanks, Helicopters, Planes and a vast selection of bombs and ammunitions.
The Market in Ho Chi Minh is very good and you can pick up a great selection of fake clothing for very little money and you can also enjoy a friendly barter with the stall holders.
On the social side we met Craig,Ricky,Scott and Guy from the UK and Crystal and Victoria from Canada. We also met Colonel Sanders and found his secret
Traps
Ouch this would hurt, the Vietnamese where geniuses when it came to building these traps recipe for finger licken chicken. It was strange to visit kfc and be greeted by a waitress at the door, and then be served our chicken on a plate with a knife and fork and a glass for your coke! Very Upmarket!
