Edit Blog Post

yes, i have finally started my blog, 3 weeks into the trip! expect a few quick entries from me in the next few days as i attempt to catch up!

ruairi and i arrived in bangkok on the 14th, where we spent 3 lovely days! not really, its a bit of a hole actually! lots of shopping malls, pretty dirty and boring, so i wont even go into it!except for saying that the funniest thing was where i managed to lock myself in a tiny 113 deg toilet in our hostel and ruairi had to he-man kick the door in to get me out, then proceeded to strut around like a rooster for the rest of the night, walking through doorways sideways. we met up with ruairis mates joe, rob and emma (whos sadly now gone home and left me alone to travel the next few months with 3 bloody irishmen!)

after an entire day of travelling, taxi, bus, tuc tuc, open bus (where we got plastic bags of water bombarded at us from kiddies in the street, as part of the new year, water festivities), then taxi, we arrived at siem reap, cambodia. great little town with really friendly locals despite the severe poverty.

we visited the land mine museum, and spoke to a few of the victims who generally are without legs, arms, eyes and who all work for small donations. the dude that runs the place is an old khmere rouge millitant who now works to undo his own work in the past of laying the mines. he can remove a landmine by using a spanner and a stick and also works for small coin donations, as opposed to a government run organisation who charges $1000 us a pop! also went to the war museum and bung my bad knee trying to climb into a hellicopter!

the temples of angkor were pretty amazing, till about the 5th one and they soon became pretty boring. me, ruairi and joe did a 60 odd km cycle around to see them all(i damn near died by the end of it). besides that we just had a few nights out on $1.50 cocktails, quite possibly my highlight thusfar!hehe. needless to say, we ended up spending 8 days here instead of 3 to account for hangover days.

next! phnom penh. capital city of cambodia. didnt really get into this place at all. very dirty, heavy crime and prostitution. most interesting thing here was visiting the killing fields and s-21, the war prisioners camp where 17,000 people died when khmere rouge came into power, and 2 million throughout cambodia.

anyway, that all sounds pretty heavy. i actually have been having fun! promise! my next entry will be from vietnam where i am at the moment, but we'll just pretend im not!
