I am a little bit dissapointed by the range of diferent foods available. Beijing food is mostly noodle based, while the rest of China is rice based.
The street vendors are the biggest let down. They are a tesco shoppers dream. Only really three types of food available and they all seem to be the same size, shape and colour. You have the classic meat ona stick, the meat or veg dumpling and a choice of crepes. Price is between 2-10yuan depending on vendor. However i found a street just off the main shopping precient that has over 50 food stalls lined up next to each other. The choice was a bit repetative, but i was glad to see and try octopus legs, ell and a few other things that i dont know what they are. I thought i saw rat on a stick. When i asked the vendor he said yes. Don't know if thats a yes it is rat or yes i dont know what you are saying lol. Its a shame there are not more place like this in Beijing
KFC is everywhere. Their is going to be a big celebration in one of their outlets soon to celebrate 20years in china. Meant to be a massive occasion.
The cost is very cheap compared to back home. A bucket of KFC costs only 4pound and i confess to having it for lunch a few times this week. I also sometimes go there to get a quick seat and a drink with ice to get out of the midday sun.
