Sihanoukville By

Laura Princic I have motored from Siem Reap to Phnom Pehn to Sihanoukville.
I stayed two days in Phnom Pehn. Was fined by the police for having my headlight on during the day (it doesn't turn off--I later covered it up with duct tape). Oh, the cops are fat in Phnom Pehn!
I visited the sites where the Khmer Rouge tortured and killed of thousands of people in the 1970's at the former Tuol Svay Prey High School (now Tuol Sleng Museum) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek.
Then I went to find the ocean. A beautiful ride through the Cambodian countryside brought me to Sihanoukville. Here I am having a swim and recovering from some minor tummy bug.
It's a good place to take a break, but it's not that pretty. The sand is beautiful, but the water is murky and there are few signs of life: some purple jellyfish.
I expect to motor on to Kompong Cham and follow some dirt roads along the Mekong to Kratie in the next couple of days.
