Cavewomen
Hilary and I in fine cavewomen form! Hi everyone,
So much has happened since my last confession… I am sorry it took me so long. I will try to update you all in the next few days but first I must recount my weekend trip to Guam on the first weekend of February. The Seoul Sisters are always looking for fun and rugby so why not head to Guam (a US territory in the South Pacific) to get some of that. When I heard about the planned tour, I signed up, anything to get out of Korea and travel. Plus, who goes to Guam? Has any of you ever been there? And why not have a 1000$ weekend once in a while? Makes you feel like you are a high-roller living the big life.
The weeks leading up to the trip were great, they went by fast and we had rugby on Saturdays. On Friday February 2nd , I could barely contain my excitement. Especially since the day before, my boss announced that they were letting go of my apartment and that I had to move on the 3rd. Oups, won’t be there, sorry. So I packed up everything during the week and put my boxes
Rugby
Rugby, oh yeah, that's what we came here for!!! The 2007 Guam 7s tournament winners: The Seoul Sisters! in the middle of the living room for the movers to get and bring to my new place while I was away. Off to the airport, we were meeting around 7:30pm if I remember correctly. We met up and had a couple of girls trying to get arrested before we even made it to the States. Yes, the security measures were very strict but Chris tried to bring an exacto knife on board and Amanda tried to smuggle a bag-full of all the liquid products you can possibly imagine….yes, she got the Tour-Idiot hat for that and we hadn’t left the country yet, good one!
We all made it onto the flight. It got us there around 4am Sat and we were set to leave for the field at 10am (all times are approximate, my recollection of the details is a little blurry, been a while). A little bit of sleep after admiring the view of the ocean, some food and off we got to claim the trophy of the Guam 7s Rugby Tournament. It was a fun weekend of rugby in the heat and the sun. We didn’t exactly perform as well as we could or should have
Guam fun
Ah...the sun and the clear ocean! Lovely views and great weather, good break in the middle of winter. but in the end, we won the tournament in sudden death overtime on Sunday afternoon. Good Job Girls! But our best performance was certainly on Saturday night at the All-U-Can-Eat Surf & Turf dinner (otherwise known as heaven!). I have never eaten soooo much in my life and I am not kidding. It was great and the setting was on the beach on the grounds of a lovely hotel. But the best part was our tour theme of Cavewomen, splendid! Have a look at the pictures. There were various rules we had to obey throughout the evening such as not speaking to men until 9pm(?) and only grunt as an answer. Let’s say that came in handy when I had to go up for the captains’ boat race and choice of a jersey!
After the amazing banquet and witnessing Shauna light a firework out a stranger’s ass, we pretty much rolled into town for some clubbing. You can tell you’re in America when there is a McDonalds, a strip club and a shooting range at every corner. We had some problems on the way, I seem to have gotten arrested by a cop wearing a lion hat (see picture)
Cavewomen
Yes, you can see right, we dressed up as cavewomen for the banquet night at the rugby tournament, good times. but we made it and it was a little embarrassing since our group had shrunk and we were the only people dressed up at the bar. “Is it leopard-print night or something?” quote from a patron. The outfits made for good conversation starters that’s for sure. So did the actions performed at the blow of a whistle such as kiss your neighbour or do the dead fly on the ground. Anyways, pictures are worth a thousand words.
Sunday was a rough day but it was filled with more rugby, more good food, more drinking, a lot of singing and barely any sleep. We flew back to Korea around 3am. A very fun, packed weekend came to an end with the prospects of a long and hellish week at work. And it was. It was about 8:30am, in the airport bus, when I found out the location of my new apartment and the code to get in. I had just enough time for a shower and a change of clothes after rummaging through my packed belongings before heading to work. Luckily, when you are extremely tired, you don’t care about anything so time went by pretty fast. I ended up
Entertainment
Some entertainment from a Men's team at the banquet on Saturday night. The Japanese decided to mimic all the best attrations of their country. surviving the week. And the ones to follow but I will let you know in my next update.
Bye for now, from Christchurch, New Zealand,
Love, Marie-Eve
