Carnaval Goer
Is that you Dad? Before I tell you about each day I will explain how carnaval works. There were lots of different options to participate in so my aim was to experience every part of carnaval, having 6 days our plans worked perfect. Carnaval happens in several cities throughout Rio and South America but the reason I chose Salvador over Rio for carnaval is because here you participate but in Rio you sit back and watch (who wants to watch other people partying when you can be part of it? Not me)
Trio Electrico (huge truck where the bands stands on) and 1 Carro de Apoio (support truck - toilets, bar etc.).
Abadá - A costume that identifies the people belonging to the Bloco/Camarote (I will explain these later when relevant) and is actually the ticket for entering the Bloco. Usually consists of a shirt or pants and other stuff depending on the Bloco. There is a different Abadá, usually just a change of colour, for each day of the carnaval. You can by a single Abadá for a specific day or a package for 3 days.
Blocos/Camarotes can cost anything from R$90-R$700 (about US$ 45-350) and packages, for 3 days,
Carnaval
A few drinks in preperation for the carnage ahead! are R$300-R$900 (US$ 150 - 450). The average Brazilian only earns R$300 per month so how can they afford to participate in either is beyond me.
Carnaval is heavily policed as you can imagine but as with any carnival around the world there are necessary precautions you have to take. Money in bra, knickers, shoe and do not carry anything in your pockets or dangle your nice camera medallion around your neck. Due to this photos may be of short supply/quality but I will do my best.
