The Inka Trail team!!The Inka Trail team!!The Inka Trail team!!

Me, Sal, Jo, our guide - Herbert and the porters at the beginning
Yey we did it and thankfully it was no way as hard as the nightmare 15 Peaks last summer!!! We were sooo nervous about this one.....was thinking I might be one of the few that have to be taken back down by donkey with oxygen mask attached each year!!!! But it was a successful and amazing trip, soooo many piccys along the way, it was beautiful! We only acquired a few injuries - some bruises, scratches, mozzy bites, a broken tooth and a lot of dirt....I have never enjoyed a shower so much the night we got back!

It was amazing and the photos just dont do it justice...here is a bit of a summary of the trip to try and help you see how amazing it was!!

DAY 1
13 March 2007

Here we go!! I think we had the smallest group...just three of us - me, Sal and Jo (a girl from San Francisco) plus our guide and four porters. Most other groups were approx 12 so we were a bit concerned to start with, me n Sal were wondering if we would still be talking after 4 days solid hee!!! but it worked out great and we all got on really well.

Started at 2600m at km82 at 11am...we were encouraged to have a fulfilling brekky full of energy....an excuse for Shana to have a nice ice cream at 9am!!!

The porters amazed me at the amount that they carry....AND they run with all this stuff on their back (gas bottles, chairs, tents and all)...whilst only wearing sandals, its madness!! we were warned that we would be fed loads and people werent wrong, so much food poured down your neck plus its REALLY nice food!!

The guide was cool and showed us loads of different plants with medicinal purposes etc, the thing that grossed me out was a parasite that he picked off a cactus....squashed it in his hand )it was red) and put it on our face as tribal paint urggghh but looked cool hee!!

MORE PICCYS and DAYS TO COME!!!!!!!!!!!

The Inka trek... we did it!
Ha ha, am so pleased you made me do this mate, I reckon if I´d have been travelling with anyone else would have bottled it and taken the train up, but didnt dare suggest it! And what would I have done with my wonderous walking boots, and waterproofs! So glad we did it mate, and couldnt think of a better person to do it woth. All we need now is to work out how to loose the weight and appetite we have since the trek!!! Heres to another 2 months in S America and more trekking... bring it on!!!
