Mukluk atop Roof of Gaudi´s Casa Batllo
This bear hath no fear! Draws crowds and plenty of laughter wherever he goes! Started writing this blog entry while waiting for our delayed flight to Barcelona from Lisbon Airport on TAP Airlines, while a certain bear got into the port!
We finally arrived at our Barcelona hotel, Hotel Constanza, late Monday, March 19th. Since our arrival, we have been so busy touring Barcelona that we haven´t had a chance to post and we are leaving Barcelona tomorrow morning on Iberia Airlines for Granada.
Here´s a quick recap - believe it or not, this is what we have been up to over the past two days: Monday night, we walked down the Ramblas to the Barri Gothic looking for a restaurant. We ate at a restaurant called Les Quinze Nits after waiting in line for over one hour in the cold wind. The food was good but not worth the wait!
Despite unseasonably cold weather (no snow thankfully), we enjoyed our first day visiting Gaudi sights along the Passeig de Gracia, including Casa Mila, Casa Batllo, Parc Guell and Sagrada Familia Church, which has been under construction for about 100 years and will probably take another 100 years to finish! We were tired, frozen and wind burned, but we enjoyed our first
Mukluk at Lisbon Airport Duty Free Shop
It looks like Mukluk had just one free sample too many... *hiccup* It was a VERY good year! *hiccup* day nonetheless!
Food in Barcelona has been delectable! We dined at Cal Pep, known as the best tapas bar in all of Barcelona and tricky to locate, and we are happy to say that it lived up to its reputation! We had a wide selection of tapas dishes, including clams, mussels, squid rings, deep fried artichoke, shrimp and whole fish (bones and eyes included). Great orange juice and fresh fruit, ice cream, coffees and pasteries are being enjoyed by all!
Today, we visited the Cathedral of Barcelona, Parc de la Ciutadella, Picasso Museum and the Roman walls and plazas. We took the funicular up to Montjuic to visit the Museu National d´Art de Catalunya, where there is an amazing collection of romanesque, gothic, baroque and modern artwork.
Goodbye Barcelona, Hello Granada!
