Hi all,
Here's the 2nd part you've all been waiting for....Ok, maybe you've haven't all been sitting by your computer waiting, but you know you've been at least thinking about our next Australia blog - part 2! 😊 Here it is!
On the day that we flew into Melbourne from Sydney, we went straight to Charlotte's to drop off our luggage, relax, and wait for her to come home from work. For those of you who don't know, Charlotte is another friend from Tokyo Disneyland...and yes, also a former, fellow "Ariel" as well. Anyway, when she got home that night, we all got dressed up for a night on the town. We went to a nice dinner in Southgate (trendy restaurant & bar area along the Yarra River), and then headed to a bar for a going-away party for one of Charlotte's local friends. Although the bar was super HOT, crowded, and a few fights even broke out...we still managed to have a good time! The highlight of the evening was when a girl dressed like a cross between one of Grease's Pink Ladies and Snoop Dogg made a scary appearance!! hahaha! Quite a sight if you can imagine
it, I promise...!
Day 7 The next day we spent most of the day shopping at the infamous Queen Victoria Market. They had everything there....As you can see, I even found a children's "Ariel" costume! hehe! Later that evening we went to an outdoor cinema in the Royal Botanic Gardens and saw the movie
Babel. Overall we thought it was just OK, but then again, we WERE a little distracted throughout the movie. While the movie was playing, not only was a baby crying nearby and kookaburras screeching their mating calls at one another, but also FIREWORKS started going off in the garden right in the middle of the movie!!! 😱 Oops...slight mistake on behalf of the 'Planning & Events' crew! Afterwards we went to Melbourne's Crown Casino... "I suggest you hit, sir!"
Day 8 Guess what we did this day? You guessed it...we shopped some more! This time we went to Chapel Street, which was quite a long street of trendy stores and cafes. Eventually we headed to Target, which was quite a treat, even though it didn't have nearly as much in stock as U.S. Targets. We found some bargains nonetheless. Later, we headed to St.
Kilda's Acland Street...a very fun & happening beach area. Here, we got thai massages and then walked along the beaches of Port Phillip Bay while the sun was setting. The night ended perfectly with a really nice dinner at a beachfront restaurant called Donovan's.
Day 9 On our last full day in Melbourne, we decided to do a full-day Australian winery tour....which was a whole lot of fun! We went to four different wineries starting at about 10am - Yering Station, Rochford, Yering Farm, and Chandon - and we were both definitely feeling the effects of all that wine by the end of the tour. I'd say that throughout the day, we had probably each drank at least 1 whole bottle of wine! Mix that with the hot summer sun and a van full of senior citizens, and you've got yourself a fun day!! 😊
But the day wasn't over just yet! We finished off the day with a stand-up comedy show, complete with the famous Chopper (and his "bodyguard" Tiny)! For those who aren't aware, Chopper is actually an ex-con who was locked up for being a hitman and committing many murders in his time!!! Today, he
writes books for children and does stand-up comedy!!! See...you CAN be anything you put your mind to! haha! For the most part the show was pretty funny to...except of course when this one lame comedian decided to start making fun of Americans. Loser.
Day 10 On our final day in Melbourne we decided to go back to St. Kilda. We only had a few hours before we had to head back to the airport, and so we decided to hit up our new favorite burger joint in Australia (sorry Mickey Dee's)...called Grill'd. We also walked around Acland Street some more, and did a little street shopping too.
Overall, we had a great trip in Australia!! Thank you so much Charlotte & Sophie for putting us up, and Larissa for being the best Aussie tour guide a couple of westerners could ask for... Love you guys!
