Trying too hard...

To fulfil all of the stereotypes of Japan, it's true, there is a small Ninja village that exists here - mind you it's sole purpose now is tourism, but it is still one of the coolest places I have visited!
The village itself has a few things to see - of course, there was the demonstration, where we got to see real Ninja’s show off some serious skill with all sorts of weapons (my favourite, the stars, and yes, I was allowed to try my own hand with them too!)
Then there was the house... a true historical Ninja house, with the original crazy floor plan... I was amazed at how advanced the hidden doors, rooms, escapes, etc were. The house looked exactly like a typical farmhouse (the idea, of course,) and even inside, you would never know, but there were hundreds of strategically placed levers, latches, or devices that would allow them to live a secret double life.
Interestingly, the highlight of my day (aside from the touristy train that just made me laugh) was the museum... I really had no idea the lengths Ninja’s went to until I read some of their historical
attacks and a bit about their daily life - those were some crazy people - they would actually carve small codes into their skin in a specific area to allow them to maintain and pass on information without any enemies intercepting, or they would leave a few grains of died rice in locations to pass on messages... the knowledge they were required to have is mind boggling...
