Hey all,
I’ve met up with the old traveling partner Cambo. So were continuing on from the South East Asia tour. This time it looks like we will be staying mostly in hostels this time and not the hotels of South East Asia.
I have recovered from the illness that hit Daz and I hard, it was a nasty 5 odd days of recovery, but I’m back now! I hate being sick overseas. But it’s one of the things that just have to be dealt with when on tour I suppose.
I arrived on a train that seemed strangely familiar to a planes cabin. (see pics)
Ljubljana is a great little town, reminding me a little of Salzburg. The first few days were a little rough with just recovering from the flu and all. But over time my interest in seeing new sights came flooding back. Walking around town was mostly the attraction of Ljubljana, the castle, the river, the little markets and awesome cafes. One must for anyone going to Ljubljana is track down a little cocktail bar called Pr’skelet (it’s in the Bible aka Lonely Planet) that is based on a dungeon/haunted house. Even the
This is a train people, not a plane
The most modern looking train I have ever been on toilets are hidden by secret doors that are bookshelf’s that creak open to reveal the WC. It’s amazing. Felt like I was in cross between a Harry Potter and an Alfred Hitchcock movie.
We then headed up to Bled via train. It was only around an hour trip. A trip from the north to the south of Slovenia is like the distance between Sydney to Newcastle. So everything is very close.
Bled is a quiet little town on the edge of a Glacier lake with a castle hovering over 100 meter drop into the lake. Usually the lake is deep blue when there is a clear sky, but on our day it was overcast. But it was still picturesque. Cam couldn’t stop clicking away on his camera. It’s like Angkor all over again :>
The next leg was to Piran, situated on the coast of Slovenia (the whole 5-10kms they have to call a coastline). An old town, small alleys everywhere. A town that u think you can get lost in but seem to always find ur way out. One big maze. It seems like this part of the country is season specific. It’s so quiet on
the tourist front.
Looks like Summer is the time to come here, but then u have to put up with the hordes, so it’s quite nice being pretty much the only tourists here.
The local pastime in this area of the world seems to be drinking coffee on the streets, as you cannot walk 50 meters without hitting a coffee bar. Starbucks eat ur heart out.
Anyways,
Stories from Croatia on the next blog,
