Well we got on an early flight from Bangkok to Singapore. We had to wake up at 3:30 to catch our flight so only got about 4 hours of sleep. The airport was one of the nicest ones that I have ever seen. Once we got through immigration all we had to do was get right on to the metro that takes you to the city center. Talk about easy travelling! This was a very welcome change from all the hard travelling we have been through in the last 4 months.
We arrived to our station called Little India where our hostel was located. Singapore is a very multicultural city. In one area you will have all Indians where another there is all chinese and another is all thai. It is quite the contrast. Anyways the Little India area in Singapore was very similar to India except it was clean! Actually all of Singapore is clean and it is rated one of the cleanest cities in the world. There are so many different laws and fines for spitting, chewing gum, littering and jaywalking. The fines are actually quite large too so everyone follows the rules. This makes it a very
pleasant city to visit.
There is not much to do in Singapore other than shop and shop some more. There are probably like 1000 shopping malls and they are all busy. Every metro and skytrain station goes right into a huge mall. Another amazing thing about singapore is its all really nice new and safe. There are not any sketchy or rundown areas at all its kind of strangly perfect. Apparently the government is really strict and controlling on the people and thats probably why its like this. We read somewhere that the government pays the well off families to have more babies and pay the not so well off families to become sterile...strange stuff!
Not alot to say about Singapore but it was a nice change coming from India. There wasnt alot of stuff open when we were there becuase it was Sunday and Monday but it was still a good time. I probably wouldnt have enjoyed it as much if I came there straight from Vancouver..but it was the most modern place we had seen in months so it was great! Now off to Melaka in Malaysia.
