Hi all!
Well on Sunday we got back from our 3 day tour of Fraser Island which was just stunning!!!! There were about 30 of us in the group and we stayed in several wooden lodges on the island. Our guide for the 3 days, Graham, delighted in telling us that all the lodges bar one were home to huntsmen spiders....it took us several vodka's at the Dingo Bar and Helen and I getting up and singing at the karaoke one night (he asked us too! And we did tell him about us getting chucked off the last time we sang!) to tell us that our lodge was the only spider-free one. Bless.
Well I say bless...his other "hilarious" piece of information was about a creature called a drop bear who inhabited the island. Apparently hundreds of years ago a koala mated with a wombat and instead of making some cute little bundle of fluff (as you think it would), it formed into some mad, verocious tree dwelling beast which dropped onto its pray (hence the name). He even told us that there was a plaque on the island dedicated to a Shelley Roberts who had been killed by
Friends we've made on our travels!
Taken at the Rolling Rock nightclub in Noosa...Rachel, Helen and Justina. one. So now when we went to the loo al fresco (quote from Graham "this is an island girls..if you need the loo find a tree") not only did we have to look out for snakes and spiders we also had to look up in the trees for drop bears. And yes we did that for the whole 3 days until we figured out Graham was a complete bull sh*tter. Mean mean man. He also drank like a fish which is a tad scary when he's in charge of a 3 ton 4WD truck. Driving on sand is an experience...like being on a permanent roller coaster!
But apart from the fear of being ripped to death by a drop bear when your pants are round your ankles we had a fantastic time...saw sharks, rays, turtles, huge lizards and a dingo. Swam in lakes that were the bluest I've ever seen surrounded by sand that is the whitest I've ever seen. Brilliant.
We've spent the last couple of days at Hervey Bay which is main land Oz (Fraser Island is 40 mins away by ferry). Not alot to do in Hervey as its mainly a stop over point to
Huge Lizard
Noosa National Park visit Fraser. However this morning we went on a cruise around the area and did a bit of snorkelling and boom netting (see the pics to find out what this means!). For the first time in the whole trip I burnt myself stupid yesterday so have been taking it easy! OUCH!!!
Before Hervey/Fraser we spent a couple of days in Noosa which has to be one of the loveliest mainland places so far...it helped that we were staying in an apartment with a pool and spa :-) Noosa is a bit of a rich man's play ground so lots of nice shops to browse around. We also walked through the National Park and saw our first wild koala bear and the BIGGEST lizard ever...HUGE!!!
Off to a place called Bundaberg tomorrow and going on a midnight trip to see some turtles. They come ashore to lay their eggs. Should be cool! Right off to see if I can cool myself down with some aloe vera!
Take care everyone!

Look's fantastic on Frazer Island
Hi Helen and Sam The photo's look fantastic of Frazer Island. I'm sure you were glad of the cool down in the lakes. The oceans look fantastic. I'm not surprised then that there's no one in them, if the sharks swim that close to shore. Hope you have a fantastic cruise later this week. Love Sue, mum and Anne.
