Visiting Brian ... and Helen and Lucian

Elaine and I have flown to Melbourne for the Queens Birthday Long Weekend to celebrate the 30th anniversary of my graduation from Portsea. About 20 of us will be gathering. Some arriving tonight. Some, like me, making the trip down the Mornington Peninsula tomorrow.

Today, though, is really Elaine's shopping day - the sweet siren song of the outlet centres is calling, and I know that there is little point in trying to resist. Last year she planned to come down for the weekend with an old friend, and somehow they ended up in Hawaii visiting the outlet centres there. Oh, and there was a little bit of sightseeing, or so I was told.

So we arrived at Brian and Helen's place in Brunswick, where we will be staying tonight. Brian is obviously not expecting us, or at least, not expecting us this early. He is in the middle of cleaning up the kitchen. While not embarrassed by our presence, it was clear he had meant to have done this all before we arrived. He goes into a minor flurry to get coffee on while continuing to tidy up. This is some

achievement, as he reveals that they are buying green coffee to roast and grind themselves. We are in luck, as there are sufficient beans roasted, even if they still need to be ground.

One of the great things about visiting Brian is that he almost always is doing some new thing, and he always tries to do it as authentically as possible. So it is no real surprize to see him load up a little burr grinder coffee mill and start cranking away. The coffee wasn't bad, either.

This done, we headed over to the south of the city to the outlet centres at Moorabin airport. Here I left Elaine, and headed back to catch up with my Jeff for a coffee and cake.

When I collected Elaine, she wanted to visit another shopping centre to see whether the sales in Melbourne's Myer and David Jones were any better than those in Melbourne, and to see if she could find something to wear at the formal dinner on Sunday night.

All this resulted in a very late return to Brian's.

Took some cute photo's of Lucian.

For sally
Its a work in progress. I hope to have transcribed my notes from Trujillo over the next few days, and then some thoughts and photos from Punta Sal. DJF
