To avoid the crowds of tourists and chocolate shops on every corner of Brugge, we made a day trip to Ghent. It's mainly a university town and was quite deserted given the time of year. It's a pretty Belgian town and I'm sure it's much more vibrant when all the students are around. Worth the 30 minute train trip.
