Whitehaven Beach
Lost in Paradise... Easy like Sunday mornings huh! This is paradise.
Hamilton Island is more beautiful than the photos portray - part of the 74 Whitsunday Islands, Hamilton is one of six inhabited islands. A small resort, this island has a community-like feel to it with everything within walking distance. The beach is across the road, and although only a small stretch, it is perfect - as we found out on Christmas Day. We spent Christmas Day on the beach of course, reading, sleeping and watching the waves - Christmas dinner was spent at the hotel's restaurant - crackers & hats at all the trimmings, it felt like Christmas and strange that we were a million miles away from home - in the sun..(I'm grinning now)
Boxing Day, we felt a little adventurous and booked us (with a little persuasion) in for parasailing (after watching some others having a go and thinking that it was a breeze) and it was amazing floating over the sea, with the beach in the distance and being able to feel the sharp sun's rays and the wind against us...Our new found energy then led us to the go-kart tracks, the other side of the island -
Whitehaven Beach
Pure white sand... although only a 10 min drive away in our miniture buggy - not the kind that you know, this little automobile - looks like a milk float and sounds like the motor of a lawn mower and took unleaded petrol, oh and with a top speed of around 20 mph - Anyway, go karting was fun, except we had to wear dodgy shoes and as they didnt cater for the smaller feet (no surprise there then) I ended up with flipper feet so was not happy! We were the only ones on the track which was great cos I was ready to whip some a** - about 2 laps later with me in the lead of course - Mr Parmar in his supposedly faster kart of the two whizzes past me - with a smug look of course - and as the dutiful wife - I had to let him have the glory - anyhow - another lap later - Mr Parmar's kart only breaks down - no fuel apparently - I had no choice but to carry on. A great race, and I am pleased to say Mr Parmar came out tops (had to let him you know)! I

In front of our seaplane! am sure he'll tell you otherwise...
We celebrated this win over a lovely pizza at a cafe bar overlooking the marina and luxury yachts - very romantic I must add. The marina was beautiful at night - twinkling of stars above us - with cafes, restaurants and even an ice-cream parlour which we had to try...
Our next day at the island was fantastic - we went over the Great Barrier Reef - and in particular a reef that has naturally formed as a shape of a heart - we also spent some time at Whitehaven beach, voted as one of the worlds greatest beaches and totally uninhabited - and it was clearly evident - the white sand felt like silk and the beach stretched into the distance - Our seaplane, once again a spectacular experience whizzed us back to Hamilton Island - we had a great view as we were sitting right behind the pilot - its gracious landing into the sea was amazing - our first experience in a seaplane and definately well worth doing if ever you get the chance...
We spent the rest of the afternoon at a cafe bar with a singer/guitarist
Catseye Beach
Christmas Day... soothing our sleepy heads - it was an unforgetable day...and it didnt end here - we drifted off to an Aussie style BBQ with the usual eat as much as you can - so we did - overlooking the pool (which was a lovely sight in the evening) we had a lovely dinner with a few drinks at the bar afterwards - a perfect end to a perfect few days here at Hamilton Island...
Our next stop is Cairns & Port Douglas - The heart of the Great Barrier Reef...
