PLANES

What a nightmare! We were scheduled to leave London today, 12/21. Woke up, turned on the telly and there they were, telling us all British Airway flights were cancelled due to fog and the fog will be sticking around until Christmas. Plus, 30,000 people were expected to arrive at Heathrow just this morning, not to mention the 2 million or so that want to leave for the holidays over the next few days.

TRAINS

We decided to get off the island. Booked a train to Brussels, connecting to Cologne, then another to Munich. 11 hours of train. Just barely made the train out of London. They delayed it to catch all us Heathrow strays. Since we left late, we missed our connection in Brussels. I am sitting here now at a café table in the train station in Brussels waiting for the next train to Cologne at around 5:20PM. So, now we’ll miss the connection from Cologne to Munich, but I think we can catch a later one that gets us into Munich around Midnight.

Oh yeah… AUTOMOBILES

The Morrocan driver that took us to the train station barely spoke English; that is until he extorted U.S. dollars from me for the trip. $50 US to go 10 miles.

Despite all this our spirits are good. We got to see a good chunk of France and the complete darkness of the train chunnel under the English Channel.

I would send pictures… but they might include some rude hand gestures at this point. I’ll post some when we get to the “holiday” part of this trip again.

Delightfully yours,

Larry (Playing the John Candy character)
