Greenland
But it isn't green. Someone is joking with us... Hi everybody
Our parents, Emma and Ake, were kind enough to bring us to Mexico last summer and we are going to tell you a little about that.
First we flew from Stockholm to Philadelphia in USA. We then flew over Greenland. But that is a silly name for that island because it is not green at all. It is all white! It looks cold to us. We prefer warmer climate.
A few hours later we arrived in Mexico. Mexico is warmer than Greenland. First day we went to the beach. Looks nice, doesn't it? Good drinks, sandy beaches and warm! We like that.
After the beach in Cancun we went south to Playa del Carmen to look for cenotes. Cenotes are small lakes or pools that you can find all over the Yucatan peninsula. The water is crystal clear and it is very nice to swim in them. The trees around the cenotes also bring shade which is nice in the hot climate in Mexico.
After the cenotes we went further south to Tulum to look at Maya ruins. The ruins were old. Much older than we are. I, Jean-Claude
On the Beach the first day
Hey, there you have a picture of us having a drink. Emma is to the right and Jean-Claude is to the left. The drinks were nice. that is, am only 5 years old and my friend Emma is even younger. But these ruins must be much older than that. Maybe they are even older than mum and dad? Can that be possible? Haven't mum and dad been around forever?
Around the ruins there were many big lizards. We were a little afraid of them. Maybe they eat little dolls and dogs? But mum and dad were carrying us most of the time so we were safe.
These ruins we found in Tulum were built by people called the Mayas. They are people who have lived in Mexico long before Europeans started to come there. At least that is what dad told us. It was a very intelligent move of them to build ruins because now tourists have something to do when they are in travelling.
Dad is saying to us that the Mayas didn't actually build ruins. They built temples and houses that after many years became ruins. To tell you the truth, we don't really understand why something one day can be a temple and the other day a ruin. Let's hope someone explains that to us some day.
By a cenote
Here we are sitting next to a cenote. Anyway, the Mayas built more temples in other places on the Yucatan Peninsula. We visited several of them. We went to Coba, Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Uxmal and Calakmul. After a while we started to get tired of temples. They all look the same. But it is fun to climb on them!
One day we went to a place called Progreso. It is a boring town in the north of Yucatan. We had to spend a whole day there because we wanted to see flamingos and they can only be seen in the evening. We tried to go for some sightseeing and a few fun things did we see. They have a beach where we found a boat. They have a square where we found a funny sofa and that is pretty much it. We spent most of the day on the beach.
But we really have to tell you the story about how we found the flamingos. They were hard to find. As we said, we went to Progreso to see flamingos. We came there in the morning, and heard from the tourist information that the flamingos have gone away for the day.
At Tulum
Here we are sitting in front of a ruin in Tulum. Nice, isn't it? They didn't say where, but we think they went to work.
We spent the day in Progreso looking at boats and sofas, not the most interesting day of our lives. In the evening we started going towards the places where the flamingos live. First we took a bus from Progreso to a village called Chicxulub. Dad was all excited when he came there because he has read about Chicxulub before. A long time ago a big stone fell down on Earth and made a big hole there. That hole is called
the Chicxulub Crater. Apparantly it killed something called the Dinosaurs. Dad is a science nerd and he likes a lot of things nobody else cares about. What is Dinosaurs? We don't know that. But we have a friend called Dino. We are going to ask him and see if he knows.
After Chicxulub village we started walking. We managed to hitchhike with some nice people in a very small car. Very small it was. Dad had to put his head up through the roof of the car and the rest of us were sitting on top of each other.
We arrived at a place were
Lizard
Please don't eat us Mr Lizard. We don't taste good. We promise... the flamingos gather in the evenings. We thought they lived in houses in the suburbs. They look like cuddly toys and all cuddly toys we know live in houses in the suburbs. But it turned out they live in a swamp! We couldn't belive what we saw.
But first it seemed like the Flamingos didn't like the swamp either because we didn't see any. But we met some nice people with a car (a big car. Dad didn't have to put his head up through the roof there) who drove us to a place further away where we could see flamingos. We wonder if mum and dad can buy a cuddly toy flamingo. They look like they could be nice friends to us. We have many friends at home. Fo instance we have a Rhinoceros friend, an Elephant friend, two Dog friends, one Gorilla friend, three Walrus friends and even a Virus friend. But no Flamingo friend. Maybe we will get one in the future.

Good pictures!
