Moved on today a little further along North Wales. Not a long drive. Up the few miles to the coast then followed it along via the Menai Straits past Anglesey and down what I always refer to as the Pig’s Ear of Wales, the Lynn Peninsula.

Can’t be specific as to where we are as really we are just somewhere surrounded by fields and quite lovely views, including to the sea about 2 miles away. This is a CL, Gwyn Tawel and we are nicely set up with fully hooked up water again.

We decided to try attaching the awning and after only a couple of wrong moves managed quite well. We were told it takes 10 minutes and maybe it took us that plus an hour but now we know what we are doing will be much quicker next time. We won’t be using it much though as it is on the chilly side of the Can and though the weather is generally good we don’t really need much shade from the sun.

We went off in search of the sea and found ourselves at ‘Whispering Sands”. The car park (National Trust) was very busy even at 5pm and there was a footpath down to the beach. So much huffing and puffing of the fit young people coming up the path, we decided not to go down it and drove back slowly to the Can.
I say slowly as it is pretty impossible to drive anything approaching fast round here. The roads are mainly single track, often lined by low, hidden from view stone walls and as windy as anyone could possibly make a road. So it may be only 2 miles as the gull flies to the sea but more like 7 by road.

That was Thursday 24th and it rained in the night but thankfully by the time we were on the move next day the clouds had mainly cleared and we prepared for a sunny day. We’ve neither of us been to this part of Wales before so we are just randomly exploring. It is a bit random as we forgot to put the paper map in the car and we can’t pronounce or remember most of the very Welsh place names so it is generally good guesswork which gets us anywhere really.
The car Satnav is not too bad but has a tendency to use the silliest of roads just to save 50 yards and our alternative navigation, Maps on my phone is a bit iffy as it sometimes leaves us lost in the middle of nowhere when the signal vanishes.

We did find our way to Aberdaron which is a pretty little seaside village about 4 miles away. The guide book says fishing village but hard to see where they ever fished from as there is no harbour just a long mainly sandy and pebble beach.

Had a lovely walk along the sand on the water’s edge so I could paddle. Obviously a favourite dog walking spot and there were happy dogs running hither and thither all around. Not much activity in the water itself but I’m sure there is on hotter days. Love beaches like this where the sky reflects in the wet sand on the water's edge. The bluer the sky the better for best effect.

We had spotted a nice looking café behind the beach and I saw a sign ‘crab available’ so we found a table and had lovely fresh crab sandwiches for lunch. We were chatting to the couple at the next table who advised us to head next to the place starting with the letter U which is right at the bottom of the peninsula as the views are fantastic.

So we did and we found the only place in Wales with a name starting with the letter U and I can’t spell or pronounce it so just U it will forever remain.
We passed a grass parking area and followed a concrete road (looked to be ex army) up and round a gorse and heather filled hill to the top. There’s an old Coastguard’s hut, miles and miles of gloriously bright yellow gorse and purple heather, lots and lots of sheep, even more lots of sheep raisins covering the ground and superb views in all directions.

Back down then and in search of a petrol station. Not exactly common on these country lanes. Sat nav kindly located one for us, out of our way but less inconvenient than if we had had to fill up at some point with the caravan behind as it was only a little petrol station.
Back at the Can for dinner and it rained in the night again. Really quite hard this time but so far so good, the awning is handling it without a problem.
