Since the last time I wrote we have made plans and changed them alot! So first we were in Sydney looking for work, but with no luck as the place is heaving with backpackers for xmas and new year. So anyway I joined with a vet nurse locum agency and went to the local vets asking for work- no luck. Also accomodation was impossible for David and I to stay in the same room (even dorms). After 10 days of just hanging about and seeing some sights we decided to head north. So we booked a re-location campervan and drove to Brisbane hoping for more luck there. We thought our luck was completely up when we realised the Ashes were being held there the day after we arrived- no rooms!! after calling about 20 hostels we finally found a dorm room in the city. On the way up from Sydney we stopped at Byron bay, famous for the chilled out hippy atmosphere, it was really pretty and lived up to its reputation. We will hopefully go back to live a bit of the beach bum life. Anyway after our 3 day drive up the coast we got to our hostel and

our luck returned. Firstly we had managed to get the most central hostel with great facilities and job shop, secondaly we were upgraged to a double room (for the same price as dorm) as they made a mistake with the bookings and we also got a job within two days of being there.
Time to go to work; we boarded a bus and headed off to the outback. It took us 10 hours in the non- airconditioned bus in 40C heat to get there- a tiny place called Dirranbandi. We have not had reception on your mobile so internet has been our means of contact. Our first day at work was a real eye opener. So here goes, we got back on the non air-conditioned bus at 3am to head to the cotton fields, it takes 1 1/2 hrs to get there. We then meet some really crumpy old outback sleezy men to supervise our work. we are given a hoe to chip the fields (basicallly weeding) and these fields are 600m long by a couple of K's wide. We walk up and down all day in the blistering heat weeding! In 8 hrs of doing this we get one 15 mins break in the hot bus of course! then all sweaty and sticking to the plastic seats we take another 1 1/2 hrs to get back to showers and air-con.. god save the same who invented air-con! Enough wingeing we do have a cool little private cabin with fridge,TV, great shower etc and we are not chipping cotton fields anymore as we are now picking melons, which has much better working conditions. I can honestly say that whilst I have this memory of hard work I will not complain about work as a vet urse, thats for sure! We have been here a week so far and our plans have changed again. We were planning on staying here over xmas and new year (again Sydney booked up) but I have been offered a vet nurse job at one of the practices where I had walked into when we were in sydney and asked for a job. Just our luck they had apparentley been trying to contact me from the day after we left Sydney...Typical! So I am gonna make my way back to Sydney to work for a couple of months at the vets and possibly rent with a
