Not a care in the world...Not a care in the world...Not a care in the world...

...enjoying a Mai Tai and waiting for the luau to begin.

…or is this luau all washed up?

So day five in paradise for the traveling bears started off the usual way. A few more clouds and distinctly a change in the weather, it looks like there might be rain in the future, but we soldier on. Coffee on the lani and then walk down the beach to breakfast because tonight is the big much anticipated, luau at Old Lahaina Luau.

Breakfast was very good at the Gazebo restaurant. We were all satisfied. Then back to the condo for some lazing around. About 3:00 PM we head for some tourist shopping in Lahaina preceding the luau and while shopping I notice over the channel between Maui and Lani there are some darkening clouds.

We arrive at Old Lahaina Luau on schedule, get leied, get drinks and start to realize that in the channel the clouds have darkened more and there is clearly a squall just off shore. We start to make a tour of the lovely crafts display and the wind is so strong that we retreat to our table to consume as much free alcohol as possible. Lovely table mates from Fresno and a couple from Austin, Texas
And then the rain came...And then the rain came...And then the rain came...

...still we are going to stick it out like the brave little toasters we are.
who are none too pleased to be at a table with four gay men from San Francisco.

Puoa, our sweet wahinie server tells us to be positive, while her assistant distributes emergency ponchos, who’s kidding who? By 5:30 PM barely 15 minutes into our stay, the rain arrives… sprinkling at first. We continue to drink.

At about 6:00 PM when the drinks are clearly becoming water logged, but after the first hula performance, those poor girls smiling in the rain as they danced their hearts out in true the show must go on fashion, the luau was called on account of rain… complete with, wait for it, FULL refunds for everyone. What class.

So we packed up, stopped in the gift shop and then stopped by Maui Taco in Napili, picked up dinner and had a rousing evening of Greg the Bunny and Yatzee.

But never fear we have re-scheduled Old Lahaina for Thursday evening, so you may still hear how wonderful it is.

Aloha
