It struck me as I was belatedly sorting out the last photos from the trip that the text I put into the blog for the drive up to Laon two days ago should actually be in this one. Never mind. Not going to change it now because if I do and republish it will send everyone another message and I don't want that. ?

Anyway we drove from Laon up to the north, near enough to Calais to catch the ferry in the morning.

Stopped at a supermarket and had a nice shop choosing all of my favourite foods. Only regret is failing to find any Fallot Nut mustard which is a little bit specialised. Have bought it online in the last couple of years but postage to the UK is now so expensive I can't justify it.
Plenty of time to stop as only heading for the free parking area at Ardres where we stopped on the way down and up on our March Spanish trip.

When we stayed in March it was fine. It was quiet, out of season and dark by 6pm and so the fact we were just on a bit of spare land didn't matter and there was a nice walk along the water.
Not this time. Campsite next door was open, road to it was closed at the end for roadworks and the roadworks were based in the parking area along with a builder's hut and a JCB. Bob took one look at my face and asked if I would like to go to the campsite. ??

Enough said. La Bien Assise campsite at Guines was 10 minutes up the road, it's Acsi, it's a fantastic campsite and they gave us a super pitch where we could drive on and off with the car on trailer behind. What's not to like.?

We had been chatting to a couple on the previous Laon campsite and as we drove into this one I spotted that they were there too. So we had an extremely pleasant time at the bar with them putting the world to rights. There was a damper on the evening just as we were about to go back to our vans. A real dampener in fact as the heavens opened and we were so wet when we got in we had to towel dry.

Still it made a really good ending to an absolutely super trip.

I've enjoyed being along...
for the ride. I so love the back roads of France. But my favorite place to stay was the Hotel Royal in Antibes, where we would enjoy the beach in the morning and then the hiltop towns and coastal cities in the afternoon...so much to see.
