Are you still there? We hope so. We are hoping that “absence makes the heart grow fonder”. Is it true, is it?? ❤️❤️ We’ve been pretty sluggish in writing these blogs so there’s a lot to catch you up on. Nothing super terribly exciting so don’t get all hipped up. No need to get in your comfy chair and line up your preferred drinks. This will be easy reading cause we are living the easy life during this delightful summertime. ?? Summertime… and the livin' is easy! Fish are jumpin', And the cotton is high?? I love singing….just wish I could.
Our immediate routine, once we returned, was to go to funerals and dentists…..neither of which was something we looked forward to. My good friend, Mary Kay, that I had morning coffee with for all the years we lived in Shongo (50 years), died. Mike, the brother of our son-in-law, Jim, also died. A sad time for many. Adding to the misery, we both went to our respective dentists…..came out unscathed.…fortunately.
Our days picked up when we drove to our son, Cory’s, house. Penny has had her dream come true and now owns her own horse, Tucker. He’s beautiful.
At one time, I really wanted a horse but instead, we had our son, Tim. Be careful what you wish for. Tim was born 9 years after our son, Cory. Cory & Penny both seem so happy which, in turn, makes us so happy. Shenen (grandson) came up from N.C. and had a nice visit with his Dad. It was so good to see him again. I think he is so handsome…movie star handsome. Have you seen the series: Peaky Blinders? Thomas Shelby…maybe?
Our son-in-law, Jay, had his 60th birthday so their family gathered to celebrate this special occasion. We love these family gatherings. Our great-grandsons, Henry & Luke, are so cute and growing so fast! Take a look! Don’t you agree? Jay doesn’t look any older than when he and Lory were married…35 years ago this August! God, we must be older than dirt!
Lory had her monster size yard sale….an annual tradition. People wait and watch for it! Cory and I helped out a little bit…a very little bit… but she handles it all with such organization and hard work…..and it is so much work!! She was selling for nine different people so she really has
to have a good system. One of her friends, with stuff in her sale, was there to help out on the selling days….thank God! Sara was their scribe. It was a big success! Whew!
Every year we look forward to going to a MEGA (big) Chicken Barbecue. It is put on by a business (Hess Tire Service) that we use for our RV inspection, tires, etc. Hess (owned and run by the Mennonites) puts on this huge banquet in appreciation of their customers. It’s awesome! It starts in the morning and goes until 7:00 pm. They must feed thousands of folks. Besides the delicious food (including homemade ice cream), they give away some terrific “freebies”. Lulu loved their free T-Shirt. Their business is way up on top of one of our big hills…..it’s always fun driving our RV there! Yeah…a white knuckle trip. It’s a great time seeing many of our friends and enjoying a delicious chicken BarBQ…..plus huge doughnuts, hot dogs, coleslaw, baked beans, soda pop. After all that, I should have walked home!
Let the eating continue…..why stop now? The hospital associated with our doctor puts on an annual Strawberry Festival. Of course, we were there
to help it out. OMG! The amount of strawberries and biscuits that they had prepared was ginormous! They could have fed all of Disneyworld! The shortcake was mighty tasty. They also had a health tent where they gave out their “freebies”. We stocked up in case we get sick. Soon we will be going to our doctor appointments. I think we are okay…hope he thinks the same. He’ll be impressed with Cory’s knee replacement.
We stopped at our local SPCA to make a donation. Of course, I had to check out the cats and kittens. They are well cared for here with wonderful surroundings. I couldn’t look at the dogs….I would feel bad and think we had to rescue them all. Therefore, I just stay away. We topped off our day savoring one of our local favorites: funnel fries…..to die for! We need to stay away from them, too. We think we have to eat them all!
A special event came through our town of Wellsville: The 2022 Great Race. Our town was selected as one of their stop off points on their journey from R.I. to N.D. The many cars were spectacular! I tried to show you
some of them but I missed a lot. Only car missing was Cory’s favorite: an MGA!
This year is the 100th anniversary of one of our most favorite restaurants in town. We have been going to the Texas Hot ever since we came to this area in 1968. And so has everyone else! It is a legend in our town and whenever someone comes back “home”….where do they go? Yep….the Texas Hot! They are planning a big celebration in a couple weeks…..we’ll be there!! Wish you could join us!
50 years ago there was a terrible flood in the Southern Tier of New York. Among many communities, Wellsville was badly hit. It was caused by Hurricane Agnes. The year was 1972. I had just started working at the hospital as a Graduate Nurse. The hospital was located along the banks of the Genesee River. When the flooding happened, it caused a wing of our hospital to fall into the river. They knew it was going to happen so some patients were evacuated to local churches. They tried to shore up the river banks with old, junk cars. Bridges were swept down the river. Some parts of the hospital
remained, allowing us to care for patients in these areas. The OR became the ICU. Evacuated nursing home patients were placed on mattresses in our entrance lobby. Try and get the poor soul five mattresses over in row three to the bathroom! It was unreal! We cared for patients in beds along the hallways using flashlights. It was an unbelievable situation especially being a new nurse working here. They didn’t prepare us for this environment during nursing school. Little did I know I would be confronted with even more challenging events as my career progressed. But I loved it all.
I’ve added a few photos from sights close to where we are living…..remember we are living in our RV set up next to our polebarn. We have septic and electric. Cory dons his Waterboy suit and draws water from our daughter, Lory’s, house to fill our fresh water holding tank. Remember to call him Gunga Din….he likes that. It has been working out well. Cory likes puttering in and around the polebarn. My preference is enjoying my IPad. I will get busy one of these days and go through a few of the totes we have saved in the
PB. We also have tons of clothes in our black utility trailer that needs major sorting. Right now, I’m happy writing this blog. Cory bought new batteries for our golf cart so we have had a few enjoyable rides around the neighborhood. We are like the Amish going by…..we just don’t have a horse to pull us…..and I’m not wishing for one again. Remember what happened last time I did! Tim is so much better than a horse…..we love him dearly.
Our excitement the other day was when the gas company showed up to seed the area they had dug up to install a new gas pipe. Lulu saw this as a great opportunity to run some of their equipment. She loves heavy equipment. She hasn’t done much since we have returned home but now was her chance to shine. She jumped in the bucket…..now checking that off her bucket list! What a gal!
That’s it, folks. Hope this posting finds all of you well and enjoying the early days of summer. ??Summertime….??Stay with us. We’ll show up again….just don’t know when. 15 photos to see….remember to scroll WAY down to see them all.

Memories
Your blog brought back so may memories like the flood. I was home with the kids and our road was cut off by a creek eating away the bank. I was not a nurse at that time so missed the challenges at the hospital. We used to enjoy going to the Hess Tire annual feed. Stout Bros were good customers of theirs and their food was great. You probably drove through Hallsport when you went to Hess Tire. Things have changed down there but some things stay the same. Have a nice summer and keep in touch.
