Sold my boat last year and moved to Las Vegas. After a year decided to leave and head back to Virginia. Looked for real estate but it was way to expensive so decided to try out Mexico and wait out the price of land and houses for a year. Through some connections I decided on San Miquel de Allende In central Mexico. There is a large expat community, the weather is excellent and prices are fairly reasonable Although I understand that there are less populated towns near here that are cheaper. I stayed a week at the Real de Minas hotel and found an apartment to rent that I like in a safe location at a decent price. I believe I can live here on less than my retirement fixed income. The people I have met are very pleasant and helpful and between my limited Spanish and their limited english I can get things done. There are also so many people from the US here that there is always somebody to ask a question to. I have heard any number of people tell me they came here to visit and have been here for ten years. I have only been here a week but I really like it so far. I am as far away from living on a boat the Chesapeake Bay as I can get.
