So in my explorations yesterday, I stumbled upon this little book store that was mostly Thai but had one lone shelf with twenty or so paperbacks and I happened to find Summer Crossing by Truman Capote ... so I bought it, for about 15 cents, and it just occured to me this morning that leave it to freaking this one to buy a book before say, food ... or a towel (I still have yet to find a place that sells towels - word to the wise for all future travelling, bring a towel with you) ... or just about anything else that might, in some circles, be considered vital for one's survivial.

I finally sat down for my first real meal in a restaurant RIGHT after that though, I promise. It was quite nice ... although I know I paid way to much, at the time I was willing to give up a little extra baht for the ease of a printed thai/english menu and it was well worth it. And it was right on the river running through the city, Mae Ping, which is muddy but seemingly clean. And I drank a great big pot of green tea ... leading me directly to my first encounter with the squat toilet. And I can't even begin to describe the feeling of spraying yourself clean with a hose - it's ... no, I just can't. Just ... go get a hose and tell me if any pungent metaphors come to mind.

Annnd, speaking of pungent (what a transition! I feel like Sienfeld ... speaking of hats, I mean, what's the deal with hats??), the smells here are incredible. If I could bottle Thai mornings I would be a rich woman. The city smells sweet and baking, basking in fried coconut and roasted meat ... yum, i tell you.

Oh, and not speaking of yum at all, white people SUCK. Ya know that mean people suck bumpersticker ... well I want a white people suck bumper sticker ... to stick on my butt. Because they suck. That whole "ooh you'll meet tons of travellers, etc, etc ..." whatever - these people don't want to be met. They have their comrades and they're good to go. Perhaps some of these other students in the TEFL program won't be quite so sucky, but soo far I say screw 'em. School starts tomorrow, by the way, which will be a whole thing in and of itself.

Oh and I had this noodle soup today in a little Thai "restaurant" - which are all in gutted warehouses - and it was increeedible AND guess how much it cost? 15 Baht ... which is approx. 40 cents! Too yummy.

So I think may brave the night bazaar tonight, but for now I'm going to go sit by my muddy river and stick my toes in it and finish Summer Crossing. Stay tuned. 😊
