Day 11 Growth and a Nice Shiner
Anyone got a cold steak for my eye? I ran scrimmages during halftime to earn an opportunity to attend football (American) practice on Tuesday. Ouch!!!
Savagery By Morning; Civility By Evening 11/11/06 (Saturday)
You just never can tell who you will meet working behind a liquor counter at Liquorland. Thursday I met a guy that instantly noticed my accent and asked where I was from. I typically respond with Seattle (much less explanation of location than saying Vancouver or Portland and I did go to school there until ’04 so I’m telling the truth). He asked if I was a Hawks fan, which I’m not. I asked how he knew the Hawks (football team). He explained that he belonged to a gridiron league (American Football) and informed me that their season was starting this week. I gave him my card and asked that he give me a call with directions to the field where they were playing.
This morning (Saturday) I groggily rolled out of bed at 8:30 to the beeping of my cell phone with a text message. The guy from Liquorland was true to his word and told me the time and location of his team’s game. Tough thing was that the field was a twenty minute drive by car away (nearly one hour by bus) and the game was scheduled to
Kickoff
Now this is something that I understand. kickoff at 10:00am. Quickly took a shower and Steph kindly volunteered to take me to the field.
Now this is a sports game I understand, no need to explain the rules to me. I ran into Tim, an American standing on one of the sidelines. Turns out he played college football at Long Beach State and was a trainer at Albany State. I expressed an interest in playing during this season. At halftime he ran me through 20 minutes of scrimmages after which he asked me to come to the team’s next practice on Tuesday. I don’t know if the invite was a comment on my ability or the team’s lack of skill? We’ll see what happens. Rudy, Rudy, Rudy……..
This weekend the Parnell Rose Garden was putting on its annual garden party/festival. Contrary to the precedence of past years the weather this weekend was spectacular, not a drop of rain in the sky. Rubbed shoulders with the Parnell elitists and name droppers. Did some shopping (be watching the mail). Received a compliment about my taste in jewelry by a jewelry designer “ I wish my husband had such fine taste”. I responded jokingly in a slightly serious
tone with “I should hope so! You designed these right?” That silenced her; I won’t buy more just because you drop compliments.
I’m beginning to perfect the beard stroke when someone posses a thought provoking question. “What’s the point of life?” Me: I begin by stroking my beard, putting on an inquisitive expression and then respond by turning the question back on them. I just love my beard!!!
I need to ice my eye. Till later.

Shiners and Bentleys!
Great looking cars, and tough looking eye! Remeber that sports jocks grow old before their time! The car show certainly separates the men from the boys. Not a Model T to be seen. I'd love to be enjoying the Spring to early Summer that you are experiencing. Our weather is rain and more rain. Flooding all over King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties, and these are just the ones that I have been able to personally observe. Jim Jim
