A long way away

Sydney to Alice Springs

So I applied for a heap of jobs today, a few in Alice Springs actually (middle of OZ), and to my shock I got a call back for a bar and wait staff job at a Saloon (http://www.boslivesaloon.com.au/cam/default.htm) You can actually watch people on the live web cam. The guy said he'd let me work a few days and if I liked it I could have 38h+ at about 16.00/hr (there's even another Canadian working there). Once I got off the phone I was really excited about it, but now I am realizing that Alice Springs is pretty far from anywhere ( an extremely hot 40+), granted its a big place and very touristy, but it just feels like a huge jump from what I am doing now, plus I never really worked in a bar before. Another "problem" is that the one way flight will be about 270-300, and with only a bit over 500 in my pocket, that isn't leaving a lot of breathing room. But it is a job offer with a decent pay and good hours. As well I have been told that that entire place is looking for workers and I wouldn't think it would be too hard to find another job if I didn't like this one.

I guess what I am looking for it a bit of advice. You know my money situation, and what the possibilities are, so let me know what you all think. I have booked a new hostel until Tuesday, so I have to make a decision by then, or I'll have to book a new hostel.
HELP HELP HELP.

Cheers,

Tyler

Job
Well with only $500 in your pocket i suggest you take whatever job you can get, and get it a.s.a.p. Maybe you could work something out with the saloon if you tell them your money problem maybe they can pay you for 3 or 4 days when you get there so you have a little money to work with. I dont really know but i hope you dont run out of money!! You dont want to become an austrailian BUM. Later Devan

take the chance
I watched the bar on the live web cam. It looks like an exciting place to work and meet people. I think you should go there. You might not get another chance to travel to the middle of Australia. From there it's just another 400km to Ayers Rock, an amazing place. After you have earned some money you can go back to Sydney or work somewhere else. Good luck! Birgit
