blog 10-06-17 Pebble Beach

Eat your hearts out my wonderful golf friends, I was at Pebble Beach today. What an unbelievably beautiful course with grass that rivals anything I have ever seen. No, I didn't get to play just look but who could play a game of golf with the views you have here.

Phyllis picked us up at 9:45 am and we went to the Monterey Peninsula to see the sights. It was about a 45 min drive through some of the state's best farms. Gilroy ( where we are staying) is the garlic capital of the world and on the way to Monterey we passed the artichoke capital of the world Castroville. There were fields with artichokes, strawberries, brussel sprouts and fields covered with tents of cheesecloth that were probably berry bushes of some kind. Phyllis explained that the ocean keeps the temperature fairly constant all year long so the farms are productive year round.

We rode along the coast then went on the famous 17 mile drive along the ocean and through Poppy Hills Golf Course, Spy Glass Hill and most famous Pebble Beach Golf Course. We stopped at some overlooks along the way and saw the rugged coast line and the houses of movie stars and celebrities. At one overlook there were sea lions all over the rocks and lots fishing in the water below the rocks. They were leaping into the air and barking their heads off, fun to see. Pictures The drive was gorgeous I'll let the pictures tell the tale. I did include a picture of the Lone Cypress along the coast which is a landmark of Pebble Beach.

It was well past lunch by this time so Phyllis had a special place for us to enjoy lunch with a magnificent view. It was The Hyatt Carmel Highlands at Carmel overlooking Big Sur. We were seated on the porch up several stories overlooking the ocean and the surrounding expensive homes and eleborate landscape. We even saw the house where Paul Anka lives. We had a superb lunch, Ginnie and Phyllis having a hamburger and I had a fish sandwich but it wasn't just that simple. It was beautifully presented and served and done to perfection. Fabulous view, good food and great friends, priceless.... Pictures

It was then time to head back to the kids and let them out to play with us for a while. We talked for a bit then got into Rummycube again and played several games. Phyllis is still the champion but Ginnie and I won one each so we weren't skunked.

It was a beautiful day in every way.
