hiya

Not sure if this is an affordable option for you but in the interest of time we had to organise a flight to El Calafate, €141 per person aerolineas argentinas...

cheers

There is no train. The distance is 3000 kms. You could do a 20 hour bus BA to Bariloche, rest a day or two and bus on from there. Chalten travel does the trip in, if I remember correctly, two days of about 15 hours of travel with an overnight stop in the town of Perito Moreno. Once you factor everything in, it is probably more economical to fly. Reply to this

Hi, never did the buses in Argentina...but my Mum did it and she is not that young anymore...lol...
They have great and cheap buses, you just have to have the time....but at least you can enjoy the stops...and the food!

Have fun!

Argentina has a great bus network with comfortable and cheap night buses. However the trip to El Calafate is really long and it would be a good idea to stop somewhere on the way (e.g. Peninsula Valdez). Then you will have to change buses in Rio Gallegos if I remember correctly. Going south from Bariloche along Ruta 40 is also possible but there are few and less comfortable buses, and I think it takes longer.

Check out Andesmar, Retiro, Plataforma10.
