Telecommuting in South America

Has anyone telecommuted from South America?
16 years ago, July 5th 2007 No: 1 Msg: #16097
I am toying with the idea of taking four months starting in February and traveling to South America and telecommuting for work. I traveled to Peru and Bolivia two years ago and I was surprised at the number of internet cafe's there were.

My thoughts are to home base for a month each in Chile, Brazil, Peru, and Argentina. I personally prefer smaller towns, but understand that internet access may be limited. I would also be working only 20 hours per week and have never telecommuted with this job, although there are employees who do this for our company on a full time basis.

I need to sell this idea to the CEO so any advice from anyone who has done this in the past would be helpful.

General questions I have is How reliable is Wifi? I have noticed on Craigslist.org that several apartments for rent have wifi available.

Has anyone used Skype? Are there alternative phone services I should look into?

Thank you,

Sarah
