Need tips on costs, safety and anything else on crossing on-land from Mexico to Galapagos.
I will be leaving from Vancouver, Canada, through Mexico and all the countries leading through Central America and South America to the Galapagos Islands. I am a guy and I will be traveling alone. I have all the time in the world, but limited money, so I want to do it on the cheap side (from there I will go through Africa, Madagascar to Asia and travel South from China, to Cambodia, Vietnam, laos etc. ). I am planning on spending more time in Asia, so the South America tour, while I don't mind spending few months there, is not the main event, but I would like to spend enough time there to see interesting things and get the feel for that part of the world.
I am planning on bringing a good camera and a laptop, so, besides the money question, I am wondering if I would be risking loosing it and if it's worth it (taking photos is my big hobby, and I do maintain websites so independent web and computer access would be a great thing for me - I don't want to take unnecessary risks of loosing thousands of dollars, which is better to spend on more traveling).
I know it will sound crazy, but I am planning on spending no more than $6000 - 7000 (max) on this trip. Is it possible ? (I already know that the Galapagos will be probably around 1300 - including the air and the (if) cheapest tour at about 880).
