I'll be in Cuzco Peru by myself for 3 nights in May. I am a 26 year old woman and this is my first time in Peru. I will be staying in Cuzco but am thinking about staying one night in Aguas Calientes to maximize my Machu Picchu experience. I am wondering if this is a safe idea. Would love to hear ANY feedback from those who have been there to get an idea of what to expect. Also my spanish is pretty limited so I am wondering if it's hard to find English-Speaking guides and information. Thanks! Reply to this

Hello Jess,

Cusco is pretty safe and Aguas Calientes as well. I just came back from a one month trip in Peru. You just have to get used to men flirting (sometimes in an annoying way) or street souvenirs vendors. But like in any place you have to have an eye on your pockets. I stayed in the Machu Picchu hostel in Aguas Calientes, it is very close to the Machu Picchu bus station and safe. If you want to maximize your Machu Picchu experience, take the very first bus in the morning (around 5:30am) you will be able to get into the site and it will feel as you are alone in there. There are plenty of English-speaking guides in Cusco and Machu Picchu, remember that it is Peru's main attraction. No need to know a lot of Spanish, in touristic areas like Cusco a lot of people speak English. I hope you will have a wonderful trip to Peru! Reply to this
