Need advice on travelling to Chile Jan '08
17 years ago, March 23rd 2007 No: 1 Msg: #12194
My friend is half-Chilean and is getting married there in January '08. She has asked me to be a bridesmaid and obviously I wouldn't miss it for the world...that was until I started looking at prices for flights! I live in the UK and I have looked at so many different flight websites and been in contact with a couple of tour operators, the cheapest I have found is about £700!! Also they are saying that I should book now as it's peak season then, but it's just too expensive to book now, I need time to save! Is it hard to get a ticket nearer the time?

Does anyone know of a cheaper site, or have any advice; my partner and I were thinking of maybe travelling down from somewhere else in S. America or even N. America. Has anyone done this and if so roughly how much did it cost in travel? We would like to get away for about 3/4 weeks.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've been around N. America before but never S. America. THANKS! Reply to this

wow I cant believe nobody has responded! I can say that it seems the price for your ticket is about right. My chilean friends talk about how expensive it is for them to travel to europe as well. I think its just a matter of distance, airfare can only be so cheap when you are talking about 10,000 km of travel. I know from price checking and buying my own tickets from California a ticket costs at least £500.

I think it would greatly be to your advantage to purchase sooner rather than later. Prices always, always go up the closer you buy your tickets to your departing date. In addition, January in Chile is prime-time summer season so prices will be a bit higher by default.

I dont think you could save much money by flying elsewhere either, South America is a large continent and flying into any major city nearby (Buenos Aires, Lima, etc..) still puts you at lest 3-4 hours by plane from Santiago, let alone a multi day bus ride.

travelocity showed me about £650 for a flight this January from London to Santiago- the same parameters but leaving in 2 weeks costs over £1100!! Book soon! I hope this helps. Reply to this

My husband and I made January 2008 reservations today for travel between Atlanta, GA and Lima, Peru for around $460 US each. You could travel even cheaper if you could get to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Check out Spirit Airlines. They are the cheapest airlines that I have found for travel to South America. They stop at many Central American destinations but only in Lima in South America. I hope this helps. Reply to this

Hiya,

Check out this website.....

http://www.aerolineasdelsur.cl/index.asp

They have flights from Madrid to Santiago... I checked from the 11th Jan to 31 Jan and it worked out to be $1045, which is about £525.... I know its from Madrid, but u may be able to pick up a cheap flight to Madrid from the UK depending on where your from?

Hope it helps in some way!
