I'm backpacking with a friend, we are two females in our early twenties. Brazil-Urugay-Arengintina-Chile-Bolivia-Peru-Ecuador. What don't we wanna miss and how do we stay safe?

HI Travellers!

My friend and I (we are both female) are backpacking next June starting in Salvador, Bahía (Brazil) - Uruguay - Argentina - Chile - Bolivia - Peru - Ecuador. We would love to hear any recommendations of where to stay, how to travel from place-to-place, and what places we don't wanna miss!

Safety is also a worry - how to reduce the probability of being a target, places to avoid, etc...so any specific or general warnings would be helpful!

We are not looking for a touristy experience, we really just want to get a real taste of life in these specific regions. We are also looking to live in Peru for awhile, preferably in the mountains. I am fluent in Spanish, my friend will be picking it up along the way. Neither of us know Portuguese.

Thanks for reading!
