This weekend, two Travelblog members received different (and pleasant) surprises for images that were first published on this site.
Last night, I was informed that the image appearing below from a 2010 blog earned me a US$500 voucher to be spent on a safari by the hosts of the competition - Gamewatchers Safari and Porini Camp. First time I have ever won a prize in an international photo competition - very pleased!
Now just need to decide what safari to choose - a walking one in central Kenya escorted by camels perhaps?

Early this morning, our resident portrait maestro, Dancing Dave was informed that one of his images was chosen for the Celebrate African Children Project photographic competition as a Top Ten image!
This touching image will now appear in a book of the same name - congratulations to you Dave!

Great stuff and well done :)
You both take some great shots!
We will have to appoint Shane as our resident safari picture maestro and The Dancing One as our resident portrait pic maester ;)
Shane, what kind of camera do you use? I know Dave manages to somehow conjure up his wonderful shots without the use of a DSLR.

Mine is a Nikon D300, and the lens I used for that photo was a Nikon 18-200 set at 105. That is now my back-up lens, as the Nikon 16-85 takes far sharper photos and it is currently my preferred lens. Reply to this

we got some great news recently:-) Tomek's photos have been awarded in two competitions in Poland
1st place: Contest by Jagielonski University in Krakow: "NEOAzja - everyday life in the Far East"
and
2nd place: Contest by Globetroter.pl

of course these were local competitions with small prices but I am very proud of his recognition:-)
