I'm planning a 2 months round S.Amer. trip - any tips & advice would be amazing!

Hi everyone

I am planning a big 2 months around the coast of South America trip - we will be driving. The plan is right now starting in Rio de Janeiro and than moving south through to Argentina, driving down to Patagonia than back up again through Chile, through Bolivia, and finishing off in Peru. I definitely want to volunteer my way around so that is big on the agenda. However, keeping costs down is a big issue so volunteering with big organizations isn't the best option

SO.

1) Buying a car when we get there. Has anyone done this or have any advice regarding car purchases?

2) Free/Low Cost Volunteer options I was thinking of doing a week volunteering in each major country we pass through
(i.e. Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru) Does anyone have any volunteering advice?

3) General South America tips! Must sees? Favourite restaurants? I know with the political unrest the north is out of question... sadly will be missing out on Angel Falls 😞

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! Safe and happy travels to all 😊 Reply to this

Wow, I am very excited for you. My last trip was from Rio down through Patagonia and up to BA. Please note that these are my recommendations, and of course may not be what you are looking for.

El Calafate: There is a tour that has small groups hiking out on the Perito Moreno Glacier. It is a bit pricey, but wow was it incredible. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Ushuaia: If you can make it down here, it is a great town. One tour group has tours that allow small groups to walk with penguins. Again, so very worth it. Patagonia was amazing and I wish I had been able to spend more time there.

If you have questions, feel free to check out my blogs and/or PM me. I don't want to give out tour names or restaurants on the forum, but will be happy to send you some of my favorites. Enjoy your trip. Wherever you go I'm sure it will be awesome. Reply to this
