Getting to South America from the US

Cheapest option

Hi everyone, I am just planning my trip. My husband and I will hopefully being flying out out the UK to Miami or Los Angeles in March 2012. This will be on a RTW ticket as we are emigrating to Australia. Thing is getting a RTW that also stops in South America is really expensive. Can anyone offer any advice on what is the cheapest route out of the US. I realise I both are huge. Ideally we would like to do LA to Lima or BA. But when I have searched that appears to be around the £600 mark with either LAN or Spirit. Does anyone have any little gems of routes or companies that do this kind of route cheaper ? Even if the locations are different.

Many Thanks in advance.
