My husband and I are starting our RTW travels next year and are planning to start in July in Africa. We are hoping to start in Kenya, having flown into Nairobi, and travel overland to Johannesburg.
Could anyone help with advice on overland companies which are good value for money and will include a safari and Victoria Falls.
The other option is that we drive ourselves but I can't seem to find many people who have done it and perhaps a tour company would be best? There seems to be so many and it makes it really hard to distinguish which is best so any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks
Catherine
Reply to this Dear Catherine,
I have thought about taking a similar tour and have research this with Travelblog. Have you tried the Overland and Sea Forum? You can also use the search function for "overland tours of Africa." There are already many discussions answering your question about recommended companies.
You should be able to find a good company that includes a safari and Victoria Falls...these two are on the normal route.
I would not suggest driving yourself. I would hate to see what the damages fees and drop off fees would be when you returned the rental vehicle, if indeed you could find a rental car company willing to let you take their vehicle for such a trip.
Reply to this Thank you for your advice I didn't realise there was an overland forum. I will go look at it now...
Reply to this Overland is the best option to discover Africa.
There are many tour companies, all OK. But try think independant and your own itinary and own time, just try 'normal public' transport(with the local buses and taxis) all the way to Cape Town
In response to: Msg #136939 Done by South African, Mike Copeland in his book Overland from Cape to Cairo.
Or you might just meet people there, who have space in their truck or car for you. Its a very Busy tour actually.
