Is there an obvious/cheaper/ more sensible way around to do my trip?

Flying into Rio 10th October, heading anti clockwise to Argentina then trying to decide which way around to do the rest [Bolivia, Peru, Inca & Amazon, Chile] before I fly out of Santiago, Chile on 20th December.

OPTION 1
After Argentina travel into Chile for a bit then up through Bolivia , up into Amazon, Inca Trail approx 10th Dec, then a couple of long buses directly back down to Santiago.

OPTION 2
After Argentina travel straight up to Inca Trail , then Amazon, Bolivia and gradually make my way through Chile, down to Santiago.

What's the best way to get from Cuzco to Santiago?

I looked at flights, via Lima, which are looking to be around £500 which is bit too high for me . Any suggestions on other closeby airports I could try instead?

I’m happy to do long bus journeys but would want to book these in advance – read somewhere that you cannot book Chile buses in advance outside of Chile, so would only be able to book bus down to Santiago once I’d crossed the boarder, which is a bit risky timewise for me.

Any suggestions?!? Reply to this

Hi, we leave rio on the 10th of October. We started from Santiago on the 23rd of July. You have lots of time and bus travel is fine in all south American countries. You will not have a problem getting from cusco to Santiago, tons of buses direct or not. We stopped off in loads of places along the way but you can do it direct too. Tur bus is the best in chile, I'd go with them and don't worry about not booking any buses once you give yourself 24 hours before you travel you'll always get a good seat. Cruz del sur are a good bus company in Peru, Flores in Bolivia and balut for north Argentina. Try not to take any night buses in Bolivia they can be a bit special. Enjoy it don't plan too much plans always change sometimes for the better. Reply to this
