So we (myself and boyf) are flying into Santiago, Chile in just under 3 weeks, we are starting our travels in Chile as we have friends that are going to be there before the head to NZ.

So our plan was to start Chile - Bolivia - Peru - Ecuador (Galapagos) hopefully get a flight from Ecuador-Argentina - Brazil and fly back to London from Rio June 4th!

In total we will have 18weeks... Is this enough time for the places we want to see?

I've been looking at options for flights to try to save us more time, any recommendations?

Any 'must see' things recommended?

I know i've left it a bit late to organise an itinerary but we were just going to 'go with the flow' but now i'm thinking we should have a brief outline of where we want to go!

Thanks :o)

You couldn't have started better! I'm from Chile and let me tell you you'll have a real good time here. The good thing is taht you already have friends here that can show you around or tell you where to so. Don't miss the Cerro Santa Lucia and the cerro San Cristobal, two hills in the middle of Santiago where you can get a real birds eye view of the city. Visit the Mercado Central to taste the best seafood you've ever had. Santiago has also cool neighborhoods or districts, one of them is Bellavista, which also has a great nightlife, Providencia is interesting as well. Santiago is a real city of contrasts where you can see really old but beautiful architecture in downtown Santiago, then head up Alameda Avenue and begin seeing modern and sophisticated buildings and skyscrappers. If you want to visit something near Santiago, you have to go to Valparaiso! It's only an hour and a half from the city and it's a real treasure for the senses. Viña is also real next to Valaparaiso and is also worth a look. If you're into wine, Chile's wine valley is also a good alternative and most vineyards have an interesting way of showing you their products and processes, always with a good wine tasting.
While in Chile you have to try the Empanada de Pino. A sort of meat pastry you cant miss out on, as you cant leave Chile without having dried a Completo, a hotdog with just about everything.
Hope some of this helps and that your stay in Santiago and Chile a great and unforgetable one!
Have a great trip!!! Reply to this
