Proposed route for egypt and a night at petra

I will be in Nairobi Kenya for the next 8 months on an internship. After the internship I would like to travel to Egypt. I would like to do as much travelling as possible without backtracking because I am there for just over 2 weeks. I would like to spend a few days exploring Cairo, only one night in every other city. Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks!

1. Do I have enough time to do this and is this the best route?
2. Can you still take the ferry from Hurghada to Sharm el Sheik?

Nairobi to Cairo - Plane
Cairo to Luxor - Train
Luxor to Aswan - Train
Aswan to Abu Simbel - Train
Abu simbel to Aswan to Hurghada - Train/Bus
Hurghada to Sharm el Sheikd then Dahab - Ferry/Bus (Does anyone know if this ferry still runs?)
Dahab to Petra - Bus
Petra to Cairo - Bus
Cairo to Alexandria - Train
Alexandria to Cairo - Train
Cairo back home to Toronto - Plane Reply to this

Hi,

All this make sense. You could also looking at "services" instead of buses. These are only slightly more expensive but may be way more faster. You can easliy go from Egypt to Aqaba by boat.

Hope this help,

If anyone is interested to know I was told by a tour company there is no boat from Hurghada to Sharm anymore!

Thank you for your response Peter! Do you have any links or names of these services? A google search just leads me to a bunch of tour packages that are quite expensive. Reply to this

If you ever want to take a "service" aka shared taxi, you will not find much info on internet there. Each city has a "station" where you show up, once the taxi is full, it is moving, simple rule.

For the boat, we were in Aqaba few days ago, they have boats each day to Egypt due to a simple point, in between the two you have Israel, and for many in the region, this is a "no go" area.

Hope this help. Reply to this
