My girlfriend and I have just visited Huanchaco on the north coast of Peru, where the surf always seems to be pumping, and the local surf instructor "Juan Carlos" makes it easy and fun to get out there and catch it.
In Huanchaco there is numerous surfing instructors, but "Juan Carlos" from all accounts is the best. He is also the only instructor with a certificate. His lessons are very thorough and easy to understand, in both english and spanish. For anybody travelling the coast and keen to try it out I strongly recommend Huanchacho, and Juan Carlos!
I don´t mean to seem like an advertisment, but this is good advise for anyone interested in learning to surf. We ended up spending a week there.
Its magic
Reply to this Is the coast of Peru as sketchy as many people say it is? I hope to go surfing everywhere from north to south.
Reply to this The far northern coast around Mancora is beautiful like a brazilian beach, but it gets steadily cloudier and colder as you go south. The surf seems to continue all the way down, and I´m sure you´ll find plenty of good breaks all the way down.
Good Luck
I´m sorry I don´t have an email or phone number but he isn´t hard to find once you are there.
