I want to know how viable camping is in South and Central America and whether the extra weight of all the gear would be worth it (both physically and financially)?
We are planning an eightish month trip starting Oct 2010 in Buenos Aries. We will head South to Patagonia, then travel north to arrive in the Central American Caribbean Marchish. The trip will involve many National Parks, a fair amount of moderate trekking and plenty of off the beaten track fun, much of it in the Amazon basin. We (there will be two of us) will be on a budget (who isn’t?), carrying medium sized packs and are averagely fit!
